Dearborn Heights Police arrested two Detroit men in the shooting death of a Dearborn Heights father who was killed in front of his children Wednesday night.
The men – one in his early 20s and the other in his late 20s – were arrested Thursday night and Friday afternoon in Detroit with the help of the FBI’s Violent Crime Task Force, Dearborn Heights Police Capt. Jeff Seipenko said today.
Mohsin Al-Uglah, 40, was shot at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday in front of his wife and elementary school-aged children.
“The victim was targeted — it wasn’t really random,” Seipenko said of the motive. “We believe there could have been some money owed to some individual. We just want to make sure residents in that area don’t feel they’re at risk.”
The two men are being held by police in the Dearborn Heights jail pending their arraignments, which had not been scheduled as of today, Seipenko said.
“We are very confident with information we were able to develop,” Seipenko said. “We had a huge amount of manpower we devoted to this, and they worked around the clock for three days.”
Seipenko said the man’s family was severely traumatized by what happened.
“It’s nice to tell them and give them some closure,” Seipenko said about the arrests.
The two men apparently cut power to the home, then confronted Al-Uglah at gunpoint when he went out the back door to investigate, according to police. They forced him back into the house and demanded money and shot him even though the family cooperated, Seipenko said on Thursday.
One of the family members called 911 during the home invasion, leaving an open line for police to hear what was happening. By the time officers arrived, the men were gone and Al-Uglah’s family had taken him to Henry Ford Fairlane Hospital in Dearborn, where he was pronounced dead
